Australia's Suburbs with the Fastest Internet Speeds

The National Broadband Network (nbn®) is doing wonders, especially for Australians living in the suburbs.
Because according to Domain.com, the suburbs actually have the fastest Internet speeds in the country and this can be a selling point when it comes to marketing real estate.
Marta Higuera, founder of OpenAgent, compiled a list of the country’s suburbs with the best Internet speed is “very surprised about how little it gets mentioned [in real estate ads].”
This means good news for suburbanites as the popularity of streaming services like Netflix or Hulu is increasing – a favourite past time for many.
Entertainment channels, and subscription services are seeing an increased demand. With a speedy broadband connection, families or even individuals won’t have problems streaming.
Apart from entertainment, a fast broadband connection can bring an efficient communicating system and better access to remote education and remote jobs.
Over the years, the trend of working remotely has increased. In addition, many companies are beginning to embrace this set-up because it brings the same amount of work with less hassle.
Thanks to reliable and fast connection, working “at home” has become a possibility and a decent alternative to usual working set-ups.
As for education, the internet gives students better access to research and educational materials that is otherwise impossible with slow connection.
For reference, just look at the following cities from different Australian states with the fastest Internet connection (courtesy of Domain):
1. Sydney: Strathfield
Inner west suburb Strathfield, 12 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, was one of the first Sydney postcodes to get the nbn® back in 2013.
Real estate in Strathfield comes with a hefty price tag, but the suburb has plenty of other amenities for those who can afford to live there. Already with one of the largest train stations in NSW, it is a planned interchange for the new Parramatta Light Rail.
2. Melbourne: Carlton
Carlton was among the first in Australia to get the nbn® back in 2013.
It has lots of period terraces for those with deeper pockets, but also offers cheaper student accommodation with its proximity to major universities.
It’s well known for the Italian restaurant strip on Lygon Street, but if residents want more, the city is within walking distance.
3. Brisbane: Ascot
Known for its beautiful Queenslander homes and tree-lined streets, Ascot was one of Brisbane’s first areas to get the nbn® .
It is a blue chip postcode, but there are some more affordable off-the-plan units being built for those on a budget.
4. Perth: East Victoria Park
Homes in Victoria Park and East Victoria Park were some of the first in Western Australian to get nbn® access.
The suburb has a great cafe strip and some beautiful homes, which have become more affordable since house prices began to drop in Perth.
5. Adelaide: Prospect
Prospect is a trendy inner-northern suburb that has attracted a lot of professionals, so there’s little surprise it ranks highly for internet speeds.

Aussie consumers are spending about $383 million when it comes to Internet-connected devices for their homes, including television, computers and even refrigerators.
You read that right: internet-connected refrigerators that can even order milk for you if your supply is low. To use this, your home must have a reliable and fast Internet connection, which, fortunately, the nbn® is able to provide.
More homes are demanding faster Internet, which is why if they cannot wait for the rollout to come to their area, considering a move to the suburbs sounds like a great idea.
“What we have seen is there is a lot of pent-up demand for the nbn®..The demand for better internet continues to increase every year as consumers increasingly look to the internet for many aspects of their life.”
