Tech Hub Rising in South Australia
January 19, 2017 9:21 amSouth Australia is raising the bar for the adoption of technology in Australia.
The government recently finalised an agreement to become the first Internet-of-Things (IoT) connected state. They are focusing on tech innovation with hope a tech hub will soon rise.
In a report by Manufacturers Monthly, a state-of-the-art manufacturing technology centre has opened at the University of South Australia’s Mawson Lakes campus. The $1.2 million facility will grant access to the state’s best researchers, financial institutions and logistic providers.
The centre will include cutting edge manufacturing technologies, available thanks to seed funding initiated by the South Australian government .
The Northern Economic Plan was a joint initiative by government, state councils, businesses, communities and industrial partners. Through tech aided manufacturing, the long term goal is to transform and sustain the social-economics of the area.
“With change comes opportunity and we need to take bold actions, adopt new ways of doing things and use advanced technologies to build globally competitive, high-value firms and access new global markets.”
-Kym Maher South Australia’s Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation. Quoted by Manufacturers Monthly.
South Australia’s rise as a tech hub became a realisation through the government’s initiative in embracing technology for societal departments. That vision has attracted global companies like Microsoft and encouraged them to invest in the innovation centre.
“The new centre is set to become a showcase of collaborative practice at its best, with research, industry, education and government working together..”
-UniSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd.
