Sky Muster, the first satellite of National Broadband Network’s Long Term Satellite Service (LTSS) is in the final stages of its scheduled launch.
When and where?
On October 1, the Sky Muster communications satellite, weighing in at 6,400kg, will be launched from the Guiana Space Centre in South America into its 36,000km orbit.
We’ll be watching
Activ8me’s CEO, Tony Bundrock, will be attending a live video event of the launch in Sydney.
“Activ8me is proud to be selected to assist the nbn with the nbn® LTSS test phase as part of the process to get the satellite ready for connections early next year,” Mr. Bundrock said.
As the first of two satellites from the nbn, the Sky Muster aims to progressively deliver fast broadband to over 200,000 rural and remote homes and businesses in Australia beginning 2016. Once the second nbn satellite is launched there will be the capacity for 400,000 premises.

What’s in a name?
Drawing its name from a six year old student  Bailey Brooks  after a nationwide nbn competition, the satellite will be launched into orbit by a rocket, which will also feature the illustration drawn by Brooks and her remote classmates from Alice Springs School of the Air.
