NBN surpasses one million mark

More than one million homes in Australia are now serviceable by the National Broadband Network and can now connect to fast and reliable Internet service. NBN™ recently announced that they have reached their target of one million serviceable homes as of last week.
According to their first quarter report, each week, 12,300 serviceable homes are added to the NBN. By March 31, there was said to be over 900,000 homes where the broadband network was rolled out.
However, not all of the 1,011,973 homes have subscribed to NBN-enabled services – they simply remain eligible to do so. These numbers are said to fall a little short of the deadline Labor set previously.
To clarify, Minister of Communications Malcolm Turnbull said the 1.5 million homes which were promised by Labor to get connected to the NBN service around this time is only an estimate which took all premises into account, including those that were passed but could not order any of the services yet.
Based on the last count, the number of homes subscribed to the broadband network is close to reaching 400,000. These numbers are 133 percent higher compared with the record from the same period as last year, but NBN™ still needs to sign another 900,000 homes by month’s end in order to reach the second target.
Three goals have been set for the Internet service – all of which are to be accomplished prior to the end of the 2015 fiscal year. A profit of $150 million is set to be earned from the 480,000 active subscribers set to be the network’s last target.
NBN™ remains confident that by the end of the year, the target profit will be reached. Anyway, the company has generated telecommunications earnings of a total of $106 million by the end of the third quarter.
