NBN Reaches 2 Million Premises Milestone

The nbn^® has recently passed a major milestone in its rollout after connecting more than 2 million premises to the network using fixed line, fixed wireless, and satellite technologies. It includes locations both from Brownfields (existing built-up areas) and Greenfields (new developments).
As of the 19th of May 2016, the weekly report on its network rollout progress showed the nbn^® had already covered more than 2.5 million ready for service (RFS) premises and more than 1 million premises had been activated.
The nbn^® report indicated that the average connection rate that it processed over the last few months was about 23,000 premises per week. On the average, around 14,000 new subscribers take up active services on the network on a weekly basis.
Towards the end of June, the network builder is targeting 2.6 million premises, which it expects to achieve with ease. In order for it to reach its target of connecting 4.4 million premises to the network by 2018, and 8 million premises by 2020, the nbn^® needs to achieve more than double its current average weekly connection rate.
According to Stephen Rue, nbn^® Chief Financial Officer, the telecommunications revenue was up to AU$106 million for the past 9 months, which is the strongest for the network to date. Mr Rue attributed this trend to “an increase in active premises and pleasingly an increase in average revenue per user (ARPU).”
ARPU went up from AU$37 to AU$40 for this quarter, with AU$29 for the average connection fee and AU$11 for the average capacity charge. Moreover, Rue noted that the network had connected more premises in the past 9 months compared to the period when the nbn^®  began its rollout.
The recent ramp-up in the rollout meant the nbn^® spent just over $3.3 billion of its $29.5 billion government funding allotment in the last 9 months. It expects to have spent $4.9 billion by the end of fiscal year 2016 this June.
The nbn^® weekly summary revealed that a total of 22,082 additional lots were covered by the network during the week, composed of 14,735 properties in Brownfield and another 2,215 in Greenfield areas. Fixed wireless coverage increased to 4,883 premises. The Sky Muster^® satellite service was launched last 28th of April. An additional 15,276 premises had been subscribed to the network, including 13,611 on fixed line services and 1,665 on satellite and fixed wireless technologies.
