NBN Fixed Wireless Switched On for Halls Gap
February 13, 2017 10:14 amA Halls Gap National Broadband Network (nbn®) Tower has been deployed for residents living in the Grampians, letting them have access to a faster Internet connection via the nbn® Fixed Wireless internet service.
As reported by the Stawell Times, the nbn® tower at Halls Gap was the last to be activated in the area after a delay from schedule. An nbn® spokesman said existing subscribers can now connect to the Fixed Wireless Service delivered through a rooftop antenna installed in each home.
“I have confirmed that the Hall’s Gap tower became ready went into service on December 22, about 450 premises in the area can access a broadband service via the tower.”
Of course, business owners and residents within the range of the new Halls Gap tower should contact an authorised nbn® Retail Service Provider (RSP) such as Activ8me if they want to arrange access to the network.
The nbn® rollout map showed that the Halls Gap tower also extends to some parts of Lake Bellfield, Lake Lonsdale, Mount Dryden and Fyans Creek.
A fixed wireless network will work similarly to a mobile Internet, but the difference is that the antenna is stationary and it must be within the line-of-sight of the tower. The fixed wireless offers improved speeds compared to the old ADSL2+ fixed line connections common in regional centres.
The announcement about the tower’s completion came from the National Broadband Network’s social media accounts, in response to interested queries regarding the Fixed Wireless service.
An nbn® spokesperson said last month that the service was not ready for connections but service providers could place customers in a queue. Fortunately, the tower completed its construction and was launched in January.
Fast nbn® broadband Internet provides countless benefits for Australians.
