NBN to Cover More Homes in QLD for Next 3 Years

Another 1.5 million homes in Queensland are set to gain access to the National Broadband Network in the next three years. However the impressive size of the state means different technologies will apply and not everyone will have access to the same kind.
In the next rollout in Queensland, Brisbane homes to western Queensland as well as the far north will get connected, with another 663,000 in Brisbane.
But not everyone will get the same connection.
Some homes will be connected through existing HFC pay cable TV, while others will receive FTTN (fibre to the node), and others, FTTP (fibre to the premises). Still there are those who will get wireless connections only.
Kylie Lindsay, nbn Corporate Affairs Manager for Queensland, said the mix of technologies is the best solution for the state.
She attributed this to the nature and size of Queensland and said that nbn plans to use a mix of technologies in order to deliver the network to residents at the least possible cost to taxpayers and in as little time as possible using the best technology fit for each specific area.
According to Ms. Lindsay, there may be instances where residents have previously seen their area under a previous plan, but it was then moved because of a change in the anticipated technology which will be used under the new rollout plans.
The government’s plan is to have 8 million premises connected to the nbn by 2020.
