Last week, NBN Co made the announcement that Hunter and Central Coast towns had been listed in the network rollout – this causing disappointment among residents and business owners in the Maitland area.
But according to the Maitland Mercury, NBN Co contacted them to say that the Maitland region had not been forgotten, and that it was the size of the county that made it necessary to conduct the rollout of the new technology in stages. Furthermore, the NBN Co spokeswoman stressed that the rollout in East Maitland and nearby suburbs prove that Maitland was not overlooked.
She said it takes an average of 12 months from the beginning of construction before the NBN service becomes available to residents and business owners through their Internet providers.
“In addition, there are more than 1000 serviceable premises in new developments within the Maitland City Council area. When NBN broadband services go live in further parts of Maitland, we will inform the community and update the online rollout maps,” she said.
As residents continue to wait for fast and reliable Internet connection to become available in their area, the overcrowded ADSL and poor satellite service remain a big concern across the Maitland region.
