Interim Satellite Service Shutting Down in Western Australia End of February 2017
February 9, 2017 3:36 pmThe National Broadband Network (nbn®) will be shutting down the Interim Satellite Service (ISS) across regional and rural Australia. On 28 February 2017, the Interim Satellite service will come to a full stop, which means that subscribers in Western Australia are at the risk of having no internet connection, especially if they are unaware that the service will be shut down by the nbn®.
The nbn® strongly urge all subscribers of the Interim Satellite Service to switch from the ISS to the nbn® Fixed Wireless service or the new satellite service known as Sky Muster®. Both services are now being offered by authorised nbn® Retail Service Providers (RSP).
The Sky Muster® satellite service is the successor to the ISS, as Sky Muster® was launched April 2016 last year. Sky Muster® satellite offers a better internet service experience when compared to the soon to be deactivated ISS.
According to Farm Weekly, the imminent shutdown of the ISS will affect ALL ISS subscribers that have connected to the service from 2011 and 2013. For the many subscribers in Western Australia, who have yet to upgrade away from the ISS, they have until the end of February to make the switch from ISS to either Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster®; or run the risk of being left with no internet connection.
For subscribers of the ISS in Western Australia that includes rural and regional residents as well as farmers, organisations and small businesses, they can determine if they are still on ISS with the following ways:
-
- If you were connected to the nbn® satellite service between July 2011 and December 2013 (when nbn® ISS services were installed).
-
- Call your current satellite service provider and ask if you are on the ISS.
- Contact the nbn® directly by calling 1800 687 626.
Affected subscribers who wish to make the switch should contact an official nbn® RSP like Activ8me, who will coordinate with an authorised nbn® installation personnel that will set up a Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster®, depending on the premises’ footprint in the network’s rollout map.
After the switch from the ISS, subscribers will be able to enjoy better, more reliable and faster internet courtesy of nbn®’s Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster® internet services.
