Have you ever wanted to experience a day in the farmer’s boots, but sadly, you live in the city where the next farm requires hours of travel?
Fortunately, you can now realise your farming dreams, because according to Virtual Reality Times, you can now experience farming in virtual reality.
The application titled “Harvest of Change,” lets the user experience what it’s like in the daily life of a farmer. In the app, you will be put in the shoes of a family living on a farm, set in the middle of rural America. Users just need to put their headsets and they can already experience the joy of being on a farm – virtually.
The project is a result of collaboration between the Des Moines Register and Gannett Digital, where it aims to bring the story of an Iowa farm family to life with the use of virtual reality and 360-degree video.
Reports said that the VR farming experience was launched back in late September of 2014, where it tells the user how demographic and economic changes in the United States affects the farming families living in Iowa.
The one of a kind virtual tour is conducted for the viewers where they will be digitally brought to the Dammann family farm in southwest Iowa.
The developers said that the so-called “virtual farming experience” is best viewed using the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
Similarly, a farm reported by the Quad-City times is leveraging online and interactive broadcast of the day to day operations of a farm geared towards sustainable food production in an attempt to educate and spread awareness among the youth. The farm in virtual broadcast focuses on David Loberg, a corn and soybean producer gives a virtual tour of his farm for educational purposes.
The Australian farming industry may also benefit from this type of virtual reality tour, as it lets people experience farming and may even entice them to be farmers themselves.
As we have mentioned before, the country’s agriculture industry is currently experiencing brain drain because highly-skilled farmers are getting fewer and fewer.
Fortunately, the country is making moves to combat this via the use of smart farming methods, as well as the implementation of the groundwork for the virtual platform upon the availability of a fast and reliable internet connection with the help of the new nbn satellite service known as Sky Muster®.
Still, using a virtual reality tour of a farm in Australia seems like a great idea and may even bring positive benefits to the overall farming industry of the country.
The NBN’s Sky Muster satellite brings better satellite internet connectivity to regional Australia. To get onboard Sky Muster, call Activ8me today 13 22 88 or visit: https://activ8me.net.au/internet/skymuster
